When adding books, Calibre is loading OPF file

I am on the current version of Calibre and adding books to my library using the "Add Books" function, choosing "one book per directory", and Calibre adds the OPF file as a book format. In the book folder that I am adding the book from the OPF file is in the format of book-author_book-Title.opf, which is the same as the actual book, just different extensions. It's not called metadata.opf, like in the calibre library.
All the OPF formats can be located in my library by "formats:"=OPF" without issue and can be deleted using the individual delete format function (I don't want to try to delete from the format tag).
Is there a way to stop adding the OPF file as a book format? I have tried both switches for taking metadata from the file name, and from file format, upon import, and neither one ignores the OPF file, or seems to take the metadata from it.
Any help would be appreciated.
