I have the 1st gen version and felt no need to upgrade. Additionally, the OS was just upgraded and it's now running the same version as the 2nd gen HDX. Other than a slightly faster CPU and WiFi 802.11ac support, I believe they're otherwise identical.

If you want an 8.9" Fire HDX, this is a fantastic deal. Spend the extra $30 and get the 64GB version.
