I recently finished reading two 5-star books. First was Nightmares! by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller. Marketed as a book for mid-grades (grade 5-8, ages 10-14), it's totally enjoyable by adults. Second was As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust, the seventh book in Alan Bradley's mystery series starring Flavia de Luce. Interestingly, the protagonist is about 10-12 years old when the series begins, but these are written for adults, not kids.
