The files are mostly text with some diagrams dotted here and there.

I've downloaded Calibre and will also try the sony software.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I think I'll probably take the plunge - if PDF's don't work out, I can always use it for normal ebooks and do some recreational reading instead of work stuff (win win!).
