Apps like Amazon MP3 wont install latest version you need Android 4.0 of higher now to use the latest version which has Prime Music. Same for Kindle and Scribd isn't gingerbread friendly with the new audiobooks features. It's only a matter of months maybe till more and more apps leave Gingerbread compatibility. Now is the time to upgrade your devices. I keep Gingerbread to backup paid apps from Google Play but more and more of those apps are becoming two different versions and not compatible with each other. In the last two months I have not been able to install apps on my Gingerbread devices because they are too old.

I blame Google with all the changes in KitKat and soon Lollipop it's getting harder and harder for backward compatibility.
