If we are going to avoid offending everyone then maybe we should take a page from the Quark playbook. (Quark was a short lived US TV series from 1977 created by Buck Henry and staring Richard Benjamin.) Set in the future aboard a space going garbage scow, they celebrated Holiday Number Eleven with such phrases as, "Happy number eleven." That is the end of the slippery slope we are treaveling by removing "Merry Christmas" and other holiday names (as well as the meanings.)
