@Tanjamuse - If you want a second opinion, Sigil gives word counts of the HTML files in Tools->Reports (see screen shot). They are usually close to the counts one gets from Word 2007 for the same text, the Count Pages word counts are usually a higher. For the same 'book' I get the following
Count Pages - 92662, Sigil - 90372, Word - 90908
Publisher says - 91,000
