(In case you don't know: In Spain, and I suppose in UE, the default minimum warranty period is 2 years).
Kobo service: Their answer has been "Could you try a factory reset?" when I had previously told them that my screen is fully blocked and that I had already done a light+power manual factory reset...
I'm glad you could finally get some help. Hopefully they will replace your HD so you"ll have a back up ereader.
And as for Kobo, it's about par for the course
