Putting the Voyage (light on) next to the Touch, with both showing the same page of the same book, is night and day. My eyes love it. But I could have got that with the PW, right? The type is crisp and sharp.

I don't get the page-turning thing. If you're going to use it, there is only one way to hold the thing, I mean, with your right thumb resting on that line, you don't have a lot of options. For me, holding it pretty much the same way, it's easier with my thumb in the air and tapping the screen. IMHO much ado about not much.

The touch is much more responsive than on the Touch. The Touch will register a fly landing on the screen and ignore your finger.

I take it out of the box and plug in the usb. (I have an adapter I use.) It turns on (with the light) and wants to know my language, with English already selected, I tap OK. It goes to that screen with the progress bar and I wait as it makes its way across. I'm sorry I didn't take notes, but it asked me a couple of other things, and then showed a screen with the Amazon Prime pitch. There was a big button for the "free trial," and underneath it, in very small type with a right pointing triangle a no thanks choice. If that was a link, it didn't work, not with taps, swipes, nothing. And there were no other options, tapping the top, right, left of the screen did nothing. Neither did swiping. The only way to go on was to hit that free trial button, apparently. Well, no thanks, Amazon. So, I turned it off and back on.

Voilà. There was the home screen, with a bunch of my books already downloaded. But not the book I'm currently reading. I go to the Touch, turn on wireless and sync. Back to the Voyage, go to the cloud and get the book, open it, and get the copyright page. Menu, sync, "Sorry, there is no sync information."

I notice that it's not charging. The usb plug has pulled a little out of the kindle, I push it back in, still not charging, jiggle it till it's charging. Damn! Turn it off, set it on the desk, amber light's out. Jiggle it some more till it's back on. Leave it to complete charging (about an hour and a half.) That usb connector, sos as with my Touch. Haven't tried transferring a book from my laptop, but if that doesn't work it will have to go back. That's why I bought it.

Oh, well. That light is awful bright and even tho it's great it has to be eating juice. I go to settings to turn on that business where it slowly dims as your eyes adjust.. Auto brightness as to be on. Turn that on.

LOL! What a crock. I get back to reading, the screen's as bright as ever. Five minutes later, the screen suddenly dims, so much so, that it takes my eyes a moment to adjust. About the time they do, the screen gets bright again. And this routine repeats about every five minutes. Turn that business off.

So now I'm on auto brightness, at night in a lighted room. The ambient light is not changing. But the Voyage light is. Not as obviously and annoyingly as before, but still changing. As long as it doesn't burn through the charge to quickly, I can live with it.

One very annoying thing that I don't have with the Touch, also 3g special offers. When you turn on the Voyage, it doesn't go to your book but to a page that you have to "swipe to unlock." Anyone know of a way to get rid of this silliness?

Oh, and you don't turn wireless off and on. To turn it off, you turn Airplane Mode on, and vice versa.
