I agree that this is the issue. The light doesn't permeate all the way to the top, and that's the rub.

I love the reader otherwise, and I've found that by turning the light as low as possible for the conditions, it's tolerable. I don't read in the dark, in that case it would be too distracting, but I'm thinking of holding on to mine because otherwise it's pretty darned good.

I wonder how much more expensive it would be to place on the top and bottom to even out the lighting, and what it would do to battery life, I'm skeptical that only light coming from the bottom will result in consistently evenly lit screens.
