Are you syncing it to the Kobo app on your iPad, or trying to get it on there some other way?

If you want to free a kepub-only book, you'll need to google the appropriate tool from Apprentice Alf. No more details can be given here. Alternatively you can ask Kobo for a refund.

In the future a relatively straightforward way to see if your book is kepub-only or has an epub option is to click Save Preview then check in your Kobo library (on the kobo website) - epub books with have an ADE EPUB download option; kepub-only books won't.

(Of course, a more straightforward way would be for Kobo to disclose format up front, or better to stop this ridiculous business of kepub-only books in the first place.)
