Carving a new guitar bridge saddle (the white part in the picture) out of a piece of water buffalo leg bone.
Someone gave me a nice Epiphone acoustic guitar the other day but it comes stock with a plastic saddle. Bone or ivory transfers sound much better and just the change to a bone saddle can improve the sound of the guitar greatly. Ivory would be even better but these days it would have to be vintage walrus or mastodon ivory to conform with the laws. Lots of that around but VERY expensive. Some day I'm going to luck into an old broken up piano and scavenge the ivory off the keys. For now, getting buffalo bone is easy, and it's easy to work with. A bit of sawing, a bit of filing, a little bit of sanding and I be set.
