The frontlight is a poor excuse for screen whiteness. Compared to paper, the Paperwhite and Voyage are no whiter than the Kindle 4, so I agree with you, no improvement to see there.
The text quality is better but that's all.
As for the light on the Paperwhite (and Voyage), I agree with you, it's more agressive for the eyes than external sources of light to me too.
(But anyway I always read close to a good light source (lamp with adjustable brighness) so I don't need an ereader exernal light or frontlight for that matters; that's one of the advantages of having a room for oneself haha.)
PixelKnight, I guess I didn't use the word "bright" correctly then. I just meant that the screen is somewhat yellow while I was expecting something closer to white than my K4.
