Yeah, I went with the HD 6 because of the size too. My iPad Mini took over laptop duty, and I sold my Paperwhite because while it was great for reading, the other features didn't work so well on it - Highlighting, word lookup, etc.
I've only been using mine with Umano so far and it sounds fine. Your 2012 is much better in that regard.
