sigh... one more try then I am definitely out of this thread.
firstly:
John C: "Thought I would cover some basic set up for the H20 to help other people get started. "
IMHO< folks who are seemingly incapable of tweaking + sideloading their own books successfully shoudl not be self qualifying themselves to give out advice, especially when said advice is scaremongering.
to write publicly,& thus to be saying the author(s) of plug in(s), "your plug in corrupts data & requires a factory reset to fix" is an insult, if you then wash your hands of any follow up troubleshooting or requests for evidence.
To advise others NOT to use said plugins because they risk the same result is scaremongering.
now, having got today's "personal attack" out of the way....
BASIC INSTRUCTIONS
1. To use the H2O as Kobo intended it to be used
a) switch on
b) follow on screen instructions
c) er, that's it
2. TO USE IT NOT AS KOBO INTENDED
e.g. to transcode formats, to customise margins, headers, footers; to redesign the home page, to force landscape mode....
WELCOME to the world of 101 options, with 101 solutions. There's not going to be a one size fits all for-dummies guide as there's so many things that can be done, some of which will only be of interest to a very small minority e.g. landscape mode; some of which are inherently complex as they involve patching other folks' code...
Having said that there's are a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful folks here, who do their best ( as unpaid volunteers) to try to figure out what a stuck poster is actually trying to achieve & then go out of their way to help them achieve that. Mostly they get thanks, sometimes they get ignored, sometimes they get insults... it takes all sorts....
For myself, I have had lots of quality help from this & other forums on same site- i try to give back in kind but less so if I hit negativity. it is difficult to help people who treat whatever's suggested as a criticism or as an insult to their intelligence.
Yes a beautifully cross referenced, illustrated and well maintained tweaking & twerking guide would be good, but the're no reward for anyone producing such, and there are legal niceties that have to be observed, even with "how can I convert protected format "A",which I own, into non protected format "B" ". The lawyers will tell you you don't actually own anything, you have a bought only a licence to view the bits in certain ways only, & not to manipulate them....
