Is that correct?
I would have thought that since logging in was possible when you search for books, that logging in would also be possible when you attempt to borrow a book from the Manage Discovered Books menu?
I could very well be misunderstanding something.

calibre contains Webkit for various reasons, and this plugin uses it to look up the search results. It also has the ability to login using that virtual, internal browser before searching. This is entirely optional, and allows the plugin to find OverDrive Advantage books, if your library is part of a consortium and purchased books exclusively for their own patrons. (These books only show up on the website when logged in.)
If your library does not use OverDrive Advantage (e.g. they are not part of a consortium) then you do not want to enter in your card details, since the plugin must spend time every search to login.
Discovered books is different. It merely opens the book in your browser, using a link. Just like the links in the Book Details panel. Just like a link in a word document.
You can be logged in or not, it makes no difference. Either way the book page will open up; if you click "Borrow" it will open a request and if necessary prompt you to validate with a login before sending you to your Bookshelf.
