OK, my Kindle Voyage arrived yesterday afternoon, so I have been with it approximately 24 hours. I have read using it for about 1-2 hours. Keep in mind that I am upgrading from a kindle keyboard, so this is a big step.

Bottom line: I love the screen. It seems pretty evenly lit to me. I took some photos with my phone but they look much worse that the actual screen so I won't post them. The text is very sharp so I was able to go down one font size, fit more lines on the screen and still read comfortably. The light seems to be working pretty well. At first I had to adjust it for comfort but since then it seems to set itself properly and I barely notice I have a light. Readability is much improved. I am having some adjustment issues with the page turn buttons, which I think are less sensitive than the touch screen itself but I think I will overcome this in time. I just have to figure out which settings are good for me. I like not having to press the screen, although there basically is no border between the screen and the bezel.

The KV is thin! I like having some soft bulk in my hands to keep from squeezing the device so I will get a case — just deciding which one. The Amazon case doesn't appeal to me, as it seems too flat and unyielding from people's descriptions. I may try the Incipio or the OMOTON, which have both been mentioned on MobileRead.

The software: this is so different from the KK that it is a big adjustment. My collections were downloaded and I also downloaded 3 or 4 books for starters. I noticed that the options work a bit differently than on my KK. In "collections" view, I also used to be able to see all my books that were not in any collection. It was handy to keep the book I was reading out of a collection. This automatically made it the first book on p. 2 of my KK. On the KV, choosing collections means I don't see any books. This change in software probably occurred on the Paperwhites. I guess I might have to have a "currently reading collection" to solve this problem. I also preferred the old "underlining" rather than "highlighting". It seemed less disruptive. Also the touch screen for looking at footnotes and my own notes is less accurate than the old keyboard, but, as they say, there is no turning back progress!

Conclusion: I like it and I am happy! I just need to get used to it.
