A Rustle in the Grass by Robin Hawdon. It's a bit like Watership Down - animals portrayed as animals rather than as transmogrified humans. My teenaged self adored it.
Also, there's a sequel to Mrs Frisby called Racso and the Rats of Nimh, albeit by a different author.
