I've purchased books from Google before (also from Kobo, Diesel etc.) and never had this error. I should complain to Google, yes?
Re-download the .ascm file from google, make sure you save it as Knight.ascm, remember where you saved it to, then right click on Knight.ascm and open it in using ADE.

Remember to always to rename .ascm files when you download them. I.E. kobo uses the same file name--URLLink.acsm--for all .ascm files.
