I believe Scribd uses EPUB in much the same way Google Play Books does -- as a base format that is totally irrelevant on account of it using proprietary tech specifically designed for NON-interoperability. Obfuscated app storage, in-house DRM, the works.
You will need to use an Android device. (Or I think they have an iOS app too.) The usual rules apply for choosing one, but we do have a forum "Which one should I buy".
