Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

I'm starting to suspect some other problem too. It looses about 30% charge after half an hour of reading. Something is wrong somewhere.
I really need to try to muddle along til Christmas if possible -- that H2O cash is going to come in handy.

My current attempt to get it charging involves my boyfriend's Belkin cable, held in the correct place by use of a long nail file under the case to prop the cable up. Seems to be working so far...

Will have to monitor the situation and see how annoying it gets!
