When you install hardwood floors, you go up to the broad board at the bottom of the wall called the mop-board. Then, to cover the gap needed for wood expansion in high humidity, you put on a smalller, variously shaped toe-board that gives the whole thing a sculptured look. My house, being 90 years old, is missing a lot of toe-board that I have to make on the table saw, so I am doing this room by room. The dining room had to have all new hardwood floors installed, so I did that last winter. We're just getting around to finishing it off.
