I can't help with question 1.
About fixing the books in batch, just hightlight multiple books and then repeat the same process. The downloading of metadata (specifically ASIN #) will be done to all of the highlighted books...it gives you the option to review each book one at a time if you want to see what was found... then do the 'Fix' while all of the books are highlighted. (As you only care about ASIN # from Amazon, be sure to configure the metadata editor to only search Amazon --- it will speed things up).

If you have a lot of books, this can take a while. I added a column in Calibre that I called ASIN (yes/no type) to keep track of the ones I'd done and have gradually worked my way through my library 10-20 at a time as I had time.

You might try posting in the regular Amazon forum or even in Calibre's forum as this really isn't a developer's question...you'll get a lot more eyes on your question.
