I am not sure whether I understand what you mean. Are you talking about the frame that is drawn around the image? Currently this cannot be removed, if you use kbmessage to display it. You can however use pickel to display images without frame (but this involves preparing an rgb565 image file).
There is also a thread somewhere in the developers's corner about a screen saver. This screen saver package includes an executable that displays png files (if I remember correctly).
