I was about to add that podcast to the thread.

I'd characterize his podcasts as following (hoping I didn't miss something):
- book/article interviews - a quick way to discover and filter new reading
- Arts, etc. (music, plays, fashion, art, food, ...) - most often NYC-centric
- "Please explain ..." - detail into some subject, like "Please explain: Wool"
- The Gurus of How-to - Q&A with home repair experts.

Leonard Lopate seems to be aware of the subject of the interview, like he or his staff have read the books and articles. He puts out about 20 podcasts per week.

Podcasts make it easy to quickly decide on interest level, and simply skip to the next.
