Podcast is analogous to broadcast. The term refers to the distribution.

Many radio shows are both a broadcast and a podcast, for real and in truth.

All podcasters would likely prefer their content was indistinguishable from a professional commercial radio broadcast.

But it's very easy to put out garbage.
Podcasting is the audio equivalent of ebook self-publishing.
Both Patrick Modiano and John E. Literate can do it.
