Of course, there are a number of 6" smartphones, some of which I'm sure make great reading devices (well before you get to iPhone 6 and Nexus 6 prices).

I think very few companies other than Amazon could make a go of 6" tablets, particularly with the trend toward phablets. Folks don't want to carry around (or even own) two devices when one will do.

As for Nook, their options to pursue opportunities are very constrained, regardless of what vision they may have. The Samsung/Nook tablets are anything but impressive. And they no longer let you download ePub files from your account, probably to save on Adobe licensing fees. That's sort of like turning off the water heater to save on the utilities bill. It is difficult to see what they can do to turn things around.
