When I saw the 'Remove formatting' button in the formatting tools I hoped that this would remove the blank lines. Unfortunately it doesn't, although it does seem to clear almost everything else.

I've been having a look at some of my comments using the html view and they seem to vary. It looks very much like it depends on the source of the comments, eg original book, pasting from Word document, pasting from Notepad document etc.

I've come to the conclusion that what I'm after - a user-defined default setting for the comments - does not exist. I suspect that it's simply such a specialised requirement (probably only by me at the moment ) that it's way down the wish list.
