Odd. My reactions are almost completely the opposite.
Doorways in the Sand remains one of my all-time favorite books, and I also really liked
Lord of Light. Whereas the Amber books sort of had their ups and downs. Loads of really interesting ideas, but not very sympathetic characters, until the beginning of the Merlin series, and then he doesn't really stay nice, either.
