Not sure if you were responding to @luvhilndr but for me:

I have no SD card installed.

I do have patch_kobo_38 applied but I was having the issue before the patch while on 3.7.0 fw and while 3.8.0 fw and patch were applied.

I tried @robko's suggestion and I am testing different books and so far, has not happened on a different book.
