Nope, the password protection at least in 7.0 flavour doesn't seem to be the culprit to either problems:

This pdf:
http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/softwa..._Guide_4.0.pdf

which has this protection settings (look at the screenshot), works perfectly fine.
