I do not think he is resting the Voyage on the table there. The hand which is holding the Voyage probably, but the Voyage itself? Doubtful.

Personally I was holding my Kindle Keyboard with a very similar grip.

Take any rectangular flat sturdy item, let the lower left corner rest in the palm of your hand, and use 4 fingers to support the weight. Works just as fine with an 150g smartphone as with a 500g book without having to support it on a surface. The thumb is free and able to assert a lot of pressure. There is no problem with leverage at all.

The only problem with this grip is that it is not the most secure grip. If someone bumps into your hand chances are high that you will let the Kindle fly, so I wouldn't recommend it on a public transport. And it does not work well if the Kindle is in a cover.
But for using a naked Kindle in your home that grip is totally fine and absolutely natural.
