I don't generally buy series that are in hardback release, so for me it was mostly pricing based on MMPB. In those cases - especially initially - the paperback always had at least the potential for being priced lower (at Target or Walmart). And Amazon had the buy 4 for 3 MMPB deals going.

I don't buy a lot of independents anymore either, which I know are generally priced lower.
