Totally, agree that if you are no longer going to have access to your old email you really need to change over everything including Adobe ID.
This may be a good opportunity to investigate the use of Calibre & become friends with apprentice Alf. Then you could download all your previous purchases safe in the knowledge that once changed your new Adobe ID will not cause you any problems.
