I buy books where ever I want and have never had a problem putting them on my K3. Now I do keep the original downloads in separate folders on my PC which identifies the source, but once I import them into Calibre, I then email them to my wifi K3 without issue. So far.

I don't want to email thousands of ebooks to Amazon. I have over 1100 fan fiction stories alone, plus another 1000 ebooks unread (that I've paid for

)
With a Kobo I can add my own font, alter margins to eliminate wasted space, add books via Calibre which auto populate the correct collection. I can use an SD card for extra space. Cloud Collections basicly threw a hammer in my ability to manage large collections of non Amazon books.
I'll always have a Kindle. I have a large collection of Amazon purchased books, plus when travelling it's handy to be able to email a book to my Kindle. But as my home ereader of choice the Kobo H20, and before that the Kobo Aura trumps the Kindle.
For traveling and holidays away the reliability of the Kindle surpasses Kobo but at home it's the other way around.
