risk of testing the limits of these pre-ebook (and frequently pre-internet) publishing contracts, whether courts will eventually interpret them as permitting or forbidding geo-unrestricted ebook sales (and/or that the legal expenses may prove costly). All companies work on a
risk-return tradeoff, so it is perfectly possible that, even if the most reasonable reading of the contracts permits geo-unrestricted ebook sales, that retailers will decide that the risks involved aren't worth the return.
