I charged mine for an hour or two immediately after receiving it (it took time to transfer around 600-ish books onto the device and then for the Kobo to process them all anyway) and then read through an entire book pretty much in a sitting or two in a few hours and the charge dropped from 100% to around 97%. Seems to hold a charge much better than my Paperwhite did. Those of you who are having problems with it holding a charge could be because you didn't charge it fully before using it, might want to try doing this and then rebooting the device to be safe.
Also a thing I was kind of wondering, but is it normal to find at least one little pinhole imperfection on the lighting surface? (Tiny very bright spots when it's lit basically.) I had one on my Paperwhite and was disappointed to find that my H2O had one as well, though it was not as big as the one the Paperwhite had. Is that pretty normal with these kinds of devices, or did I just get unlucky again?
