True, you can try running it under WINE. No guarantees, though.

Amazon requires you (since always) to have some sort of registered device, so it's download via K4PC or own a Kindle ereader (and download from MYK if you want).

Kobo now inconsistently requires you to use a Kobo app/device to get the KEPUB, without an EPUB option.
