the same limitation is there when I move azw via usb, either manually or with calibre, or via dropbox; my kindle fire does not accept them as books

maybe it accepts some books, some of the time, but if so, I cannot figure out the criteria,
the obvious route of epub -> azw3 in calibre then send to device, never worked when i tested it. its probably looking for some field or code that identifies is as a genuine book-from-amazon.

or maybe I have to manually lose the "3" - a dummies guide for this would be good, covering how to sideload from PC / from cloud storage.
- a de DRMd amazon purchase ,
- de DRMd epub purchase , converted by calibre to AZW3
- general non-drm epub, withouth downgrading to mobi format

I read that is is relatively easy to sideload .mobi files, but also that the mobi format does not support all of the epub-like functionality that azw includes , so calibre: epub -> mobi -> kindle or calibre: azw3 -> mobi -> kindle could lose some formatting ?
