I have had the most frustrating weekend working on The Caravaners [sic] by Elizabeth von Arnim.
I went to The Internet Archive, because it's only available as scans. The first version I downloaded only contained alternate pages (--it originated from Google, apparently).
I sighed, but did not repine. There was a second version. So I downloaded that and started work on it. Six hours later, I discovered that about 80 pages were missing from the middle of the book. This was very annoying.
I returned to The Internet Archive and found a third version. It was complete but had drawbacks. There were more OCR errors and it was an American edition. But I found the missing pages, got the spelling consistent, and reformatted extensively, and have finally managed to upload a copy, after more hours than I care to count.
After all that, I've only freed about an inch of shelf-space. (The paper copy is going to charity.) But it is a surprisingly good read and I hope that someone else will like it too.
