I just finished "Twilight of the Belle Epoque: The Paris of Picasso, Stravinsky, Proust, Renault, Marie Curie, Gertrude Stein, and Their Friends Through the Great War" by Mary McAuliffe. The books chapters are organized by year, and the last chapters cover the war years. I thought it gave some sense of how life in Paris was affected by the war.
