FWIW...
I just purchased a book, and was able to de-DRM it.
I first tried a free book. I verified it had DRM (calibre reported it had DRM). I than de-DRM'd it and Calibre was able to edit/view it.
I than did the same thing for a non-free book.
I was using old tools, old Nook for PC (I didn't use Calibre for de-DRMing.)
My CC date had expired, and BN made me update it (I just updated the expiration date).
I was confused at first; for the free book, there is a "Download Now" button (before you "buy" it), but when you click on "Download Now", it takes you through the purchasing steps (the price is 0), and it ends up in your library.
