There's nothing more relaxing than reading in a hammock, during a beautiful summer day. Or reading in front of you tent, in the shade of that tree, while on holiday. And there are more situations where you want to read outside (but I'm too lazy to list all of the reasons why I read outside)
Reading outside isn't necessarily reading in direct sunlight. I prefer to read in the half-shade, which makes reading a LCD screen difficult (without increasing brightness to full and thus decreasing battery life dramatically), but an e-ink screen is perfect in those situations.
