I guess I spoke too soon, as Amazon has a place where they show a picture of the 6" next to the 7" and I am sure that would be too small for me.

I don't have to carry it around too often except to doctors' offices now and then. Due to my poor eyes, I have to use a rather large font size, so there wold be less text on the screen. Also, to me one big flaw in Kindles is that all the menus and other stuff can't be enlarged, so have to use a magnifying glass to read any of that. Or, has that changed with the later models?

So guys, what are your recommendation for a 7" model? Sorry about that.
Fire HD 7 -- $139 for 8GB and $159 for 16GB

Negatives
  • text not as sharp (216 ppi vs 252 ppi)
  • $40 more expensive
  • 1.8oz heavier
  • 0.9" wider, 0.8" taller

Positives
  • larger display (7" vs 6")
  • better speakers (two stereo vs one mono)

Black Friday is just around the corner and I was able to get a 1st gen 16GB Fire HD for $100 last year. If you're not in a hurry, there might be some deals on the HDs or the HDX.
