Did a quick test and using 3.8.0, the Digital Editions directory tree is created when I first open an epub on the internal storage to read and not during the initial processing after disconnect. I still seem to remember those entries being created during the processing with an earlier firmware but it appears that is no longer so. Opening a new ebook adds a new entry set.
