I don't burn out from reading multiple books in a series. In fact, when I first met the Discworld books, I think I read at least a dozen of them, straight.
There are some series that I can read one right after the other. The problem is that it's rare for me to find a series that I haven't read that has a significant number of books. I zipped through Griffin's Marine Corp series one after the next. Usually, when I'm reading a series, it's more re-reading the series, so I don't really have the what happens next drive that a fresh series would give me. It's one of the down sides to having read SF&F since the mid 70's.
