I've noticed that cheap hotels tend to have free WiFi, while more expensive hotels tend to charge for it. It's probably because business travelers go to the more expensive hotels and their employers pay for the WiFi.
Someday, I could see network access being free everywhere. Maybe not fast enough for video, but fast enough for routine use of the web.
