You're right, they probably all do the basics pretty well. I think why people debated the details is it's something you're going to spend a lot of hours with, and while I could "live with" something on a laptop say, I want it exactly right on a reader just because of the time spent on it. With a paper book you really have no options, but by the same token you'll be moving on to the next one relatively soon, whereas with a reader you're still on it when you move to the next one and small irritations could add up.
