The reason Argos are so reluctant to allow returns is that its a data capture device and when you turn it on it starts the set up process, however when you sign out of your kobo account it resets the reader back to the sign in process. I doesn't delete any books or tweak, you'd have to do that first, but for all intent and purpose it's back to factory spec.

The Argos rules re data devices seems very generalised and looks to me like they really don't know much about the devices they sell. Not only Kobo but Apple phones and tablets can also be easily reset to factory spec, so it is probable that many other devices can too. It looks as though it is really just an excuse - or total incompetence/ignorance - on their part to justify making it difficult to return items.
