that's the least you can say. i in fact have installed windows twice now, because the first time, i installed it, and installed all the drivers for the new motherboard and graphic card, and then there was some weird yellow alert for audio something or other (actually there were 4 of them, but i got rid of two of them by putting the mb cd back in), and it would not go away, and i had NO SOUND WHATSOEVER, and since i had not yet reinstalled my antivirus and firewall i couldn't hook up internet to see what the fark they were, and after playing musical cds (i mean that as in "musical chairs" but with cds, in case that was not clear) and no luck finding the drivers i finally just gave up and started over.

i'm very superstitious when it comes to windows installs ; if it starts off bad, it will probably only get worse. so yeah, ARGH! to the fourth power. thus my triumph at having NO ALERTS AT ALL (and functioning sound !!! ha !! take that, windows device manager !!) this time.

ironically, something that sort of almost caught my (glazed, staring) eye the second time around makes me think that the missing audio driver was actually, inexplicably, on the graphic card cd. i have no idea why they would do that. just to mess with me, i'm sure.

look at that, it's actually half past zzzelda already. dear god, why am i not in bed ?
Oh yes ... of course ... device manager.

Duh.

Well, this is why I have so many computers around the house. When something goes wrong, I always have at least one fully functional machine to get online with and download drivers.

I would be completely bonkers without that.

Of course, I also frequently download updated drivers and burn them to either CD or DVD, and keep them in my little ARGH kit.
